Moolavar Vimanam
|
| |
| |
| |
|
|
As the breeze, rendered cool by the sweet
waters of Then pennai river, wafts in
the sanctum, the harassed soul experiences
the healing touch of the Divine and the
plenary bliss for a fleeting moment. |
| The
Lord |
 |
| Keeping
the right hand in a posture that assumes
in stand production, the Lord with benign
countenance lies with his head in the
south on the lap of Sridevi and the legs
towards the north stretched on the lap
of Bhoodevi, with Adhishesha serving as
comfortable couch and Garuda near the
head in the posture of a devoted attendant. |
| ChandoVimana
|
| The
legend tells us that the Asura called
"Somuga" stole away the Vedas
and hid them in the ocean and on the request
of celestials. Lord Vishnu assumed the
form of Matsya (Fish), rescued the Vedas
and resting on the couch in this kshetra,
imparted them to Brahma who had sprung
from his naval. As if to confirm the truth
of this legend the vimana over the sanctum
is known as "Chandomaya Vimana"
meaning Vedic prosody and the figure of
Brahma sitting on the lotus is seen carved
on the walls behind Sri Ranganatha swamy.

| Chandra
Pushkarani |
| Chandra
also appears to have worshipped the lord,
to get himself released from a curse,
the theertha associated with him is known
as "Chandra Pushkarani". Vayu
too appears to have worshipped the Lord
and instituted regular festivals for the
worship of the deity |
